This type of surgery is done on abnormal structures of the body, caused by congenital problems, problems associated with development or growth, trauma, infections, tumors or diseases. It is done especially to improve function, although it can also be done to enhance physical appearance. In short, the main objective of Reconstructive Surgery is to try and restore or improve function and physical appearance in patients suffering various injuries.
